Not much going on here, just getting to know people. In a conversation with Christina a couple of days ago, she was giving me a hard time about not meeting people yet: you know, because I've been here a whole 4 weeks. We should already be getting best friend tattoos. In the course of the conversation, we came up with a brilliant idea: I am to stand on the corner with a sign that says "WILL WORK FOR FRIENDS". I'll let you know how it turns out...

Settling in...

Okay, so I have worked the last 6 days so I haven't been able to get out and see any more, BUT - I've met a few of my neighbors and it's so funny - they actually have a welcome packet for my street/circle that tells a short life story about every person, including their emergency contact information. What?:) It's actually really cute. Everyone has been so nice. M has a kid named Ben that comes in to walk her while I'm at work and this week, I got a note from him that said M got into a fight with another dog, so: she did not get her treat that day:). I love it! He's really sweet with her. It snowed on my way in to work the other morning, just a few flurries... but definitely snow. I don't know if I'm prepared for this....:)

The Falls!

I went exploring at Shoshone Falls today, also known as "The Niagara of the West". The water actually falls higher from these falls; there's your factoid for the day:). And the second picture: it seems every new place holds a hazard for M!:) I'm settled in my new place so I threw a picture on here of it - it's great! I have a brand new townhome WITH a garage. It could be a shack and still be great as long as it had a garage:) ha ha. I have a neighbor kid who's going to take M out after school and other than that, nothing much is going on. I'm missing everyone a lot. This is always my favorite time of year, but it's not as much fun when you don't know anybody. In time...

Twin Falls!

Okay, so - the job is going okay, I'm still not in an apartment yet, but I'm working on it. Hopefully, by next week.... In order to get into "Magic Valley" (as Twin Falls is called) you have to cross over the Snake River Gorge. It's absolutely gorgeous. In the canyon, there are 2 golf courses and a waterfront park. The pictures don't even do it justice. All I can say is, you need to come and see me!!! Just 5 miles down the road are the Shoshone Falls, also known as the Niagara of the West. I think I'll hit that this weekend unless I'm busy moving in. Anyway - M and I walked the rim of the canyon today and watched the base jumpers who jump near the bridge. I think that might have to be my next big adventure since skydiving!!! We'll see:)

South Dakota to Wyoming!

Alright, I spent last night in Rapid City, SD and did some exploring today. I think the 1st picture is self-explanatory. The 2nd one is M riding through the Black Hills near Mt Rushmore and the third is the largest town in Wyoming. The funniest part was that there was actually a sign advertising the town park... I had to stop and take a picture and I'm still laughing:) AND - I saw a sign that read "24HOUR TOE SERVICE"... WHAT?!? Life is different in this part of town...:) More updates to come...

IDAHO??!

Okay, to all of my loyal readers, I apologize for my disappearance. I've been at Mom and Dad's and... it's easy to get sucked into the chaos of everyday life:). I am going to Idaho! I have no idea what I'm going to do there, maybe I'll learn to ski, hopefully do a little whitewater rafting. We'll see. I leave Wednesday, stopping to see my favorite uncle in Kansas City! I will give updates from the road: I'm planning on doing a little sightseeing on my way, so get ready!! There will be pictures:) M is packing and we are SO excited! Love you guys,

ROADKILL!

Okay, posting again!:) I spent the day driving along the Mississippi and visiting preserved sugar cane plantations. It was VERY hot but very interesting and enjoyable. AND - check out the roadkill I found! I pulled over and took a pic - I was in the real swampland. It was so cool...

Okay, Okay...

Okay, Okay... I'll start posting again. Hopefully something exciting will happen. I have 6 weeks left in "naawleans" as they like to say down here:) Should we start taking bets on where I go next?:) I don't have any pics because I left my camera at Mom and Dad's. For those of you who haven't heard, Kate's moving further north in Minnesota but I don't know where because... oh yea, YOU HAVEN'T CALLED ME, KATE:) Anyway, M and I are just hanging out, trying to stay cool cause it's so hot here. The girls I work with are laughing at me because apparently, we're having a mild summer... oh- and I found out today that sometimes they get alligators in the lake at my apartment (it used to be a swamp?) I fear for M's life...

Turtle!

Okay - so M is enjoying her new babysitter... and life is boring again. I have settled into a routine and once again, I am bored. And it is hotter than a you-know-what here. I walked outside this morning and the face of my WATCH fogged up. Does that give you an idea of what the humidity is like?:) And it's only the beginning of June...Oh well. In a week and a half, I'll be going home to visit. I'm excited to see some of the girls in Louisville. Kate sent me a birthday package - she wins this year! She's the first to wish me happy birthday:) And it was such a cool package... you rock, Kate! Tell Pete I said hello but that I will try to steal you again:) Love everyone, Jules
P.S. This is the turtle that Kate sent M! I think she's still deciding if it's competition...:)

Sadly, my week of celebrity sighting is over. I don't really even want to post anything again - it will be a while before anything comes close to comparing with that:) BUT - here is a video (sorry, I had to splice it b/c it was too big) of M barking. I KNOW, she never barks, but here she is in action. She met her new babysitter today and she really liked her. (she dropped her toy at the lady's feet) Anyway, enjoy the video. Hope everyone has a good weekend. jules

I'm a rockstar...:)

UNBELIEVABLE! I went to work at Habitat today because there was a big event (for the dedication of the 1000th house built in NO since Katrina) with Jimmy Carter and they needed nurses to be there to do first aid, etc. I'm sitting at the first aid station early this am when I turn around and - who do I see? Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood. AAAAAAGH! I shook their hands, talked to them and - obviously - got a picture. It has absolutely made my week. THEN - Rosalyn Carter didn't feel well, so who got to take a look at her and give her some ibuprofen? That's right, ME. I got to hang out with the secret service and everything (yea, they ordered me around:). I have no other news... I'm a rockstar...:)

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY, MOM!!

Mom, Sarah, Christina (soon to be!), Grandma... I love you!

I'm Back:)!

Okay, so I went back to work today (sigh of relief). Everyone was SO nice- it's nurses' week and my manager included me in the festivities. I got free gifts INCLUDING a nice picnic chair (you know, the kind that goes into the bag and you throw over your shoulder?:) I still don't know what I'm doing yet (i.e. life) but I've decided that I miss M terribly. Mom gives me daily babysitting updates. The newest thing?: M has 2 boxes of treats, so they hold up both boxes and let her pick which one she wants. Unbelievable:)... I love it. You know she thinks she's a princess. I'm in an extended stay right now and trying really hard to get an apartment. Just wanted to say a big thanks to Mom and Dad (and the kids) for taking care of M. I love you guys! and I know she's having a good time. (I think she's regularly eating popcorn and watching movies with the fam:) Oh! - and she has a new boyfriend that comes over to play. Can you tell that I miss her? By the way, Kate - I'm watching "According to Jim" and I miss you!!!

California... again

Okay - so, I am now in California, spent the night at Jane and Larry's last night. (By the way, my car was still there and in one piece!:) Jane made me an awesome goody bag for the road: thanks, Jane:) I drove down the coast today and had an awesome time. I'll try to post some pics. I'm driving to Phoenix tomorrow and staying with Liz and I'm so excited!

Hurrah!

Hurrah! I will finally be employed again after 5 weeks:) I know Everyone (and their mother) keeps asking me if I've found a job and I can now say, yes. I am going back to New Orleans. To make a long story short, I was not having any luck finding a job that I liked out west and the hospital in New Orleans called my agency and asked if I would be interested in working an additional contract. So... off I go. Tentative game plan: fly out to get my car in SF on monday; travel down the coast on tues; phoenix by wed; dallas/fort worth by thur; and new orleans on friday:) M is not going with me:( but I will get her within the 1st couple of weeks provided housing is not an issue. (I may end up in a hotel and I'm not sure how she'll handle that-it's all negotiable at this point:) AND- everyone keeps asking me "So, what happened to your sister that went with you out to New Orleans?" KATIE went back to Minnesota with Pete... and I am very sad to lose her. So, now- Kate has made the ultimate gesture and MOVED with me. Where are my sisters and friends that were supposed to come visit me? (with the exception of Emily who did come to visit:) This is now your opportunity!!:) Make haste, reservations are filling quickly. Alright, love you guys - I'll keep you posted... Jules
OH! And congrats to Sarah and Brad, they had a baby girl today: Lillian Elizabeth 9lbs, 10oz and perfect:) Sarah, you rock...:)

Life

Okay, so - California is over and I am now a lone duck again. (katie, i'm trying to make you feel bad enough to come with me - i hope it's working!:) I am officially an idiot. My car is in California and I have no job:( oh well - live and learn, right? I'm at home and let's see: i've been to st vincent de paul, glued a cookie jar together, fixed a welcome sign, done A LOT of purging:) and a bunch of other CRAP. It's been real entertaining, let me tell you. Congratulations to chris and christina: you rock! I'm saying lots of prayers for you. I've applied for a job in phoenix, so ... fingers crossed!

COUNTDOWN!

Okay: so, we are officially down to our last and final days here in san francisco. :( We are laying out every chance we get! Kate is so tan but sadly, I am far behind. I still have not found a job. BUT! kate and jon and i are going skydiving next sunday:):):) i am SO excited. i'm wondering if either one of them are going to chicken out:) EVERYONE WILL LAUNCH! is my motto- he he he Alright- well, hope everyone has a good week and for those of you who missed the last entry, scroll down because there are some very good pics...

Aaaaggghh!

I cannot believe how busy we've been lately. Kate and I are wearing ourselves out with the way we've been running lately. We can't wait to go home where things will hopefully settle down for a short while. We're ready for vacation!!! Only 8 more days of work and we plan on laying out on those remaining days:) he he he Okay, so here are the updates: Emily has come and gone but we have had an absolute blast having her here. I can't put EVERY picture of the things we did but we were able to sure her a fun part of san francisco. On Friday, we went to alcatraz, pier 39, fisherman's wharf, golden gate park and muir woods. (It was a very busy day.) And on Thursday night, we went to Half Moon Bay and Moss Beach. I still don't know where I'm going after this:(. Kate is excited about moving back to Minnesota and being near Pete again. And Emily made it safely back to Lexington. SO - more updates to come, just winding things down in our last few days. OH - i nearly forgot the biggest story: kate and i went paintballing with jon on sunday and what can i say? I NEVER realized paintballing was such a taxing hobby. I am so sore, it's unbelievable- and NOT from getting hit from paintballs. My legs are sore from running up and down hills with an extra 10 to 15 lbs on me. I mean, I've been running 2 to 3 miles a day, and my legs felt worse than after i ran my half marathon. unbelievable ....
btw: the 1st pic is the 3 girls on the ferry to alcatraz, the 2nd one is emily getting pooed on by a bird on moss beach and ... i think the last 2 are self-explanatory:)

Mmm... where to start?

Okay - so... we have lots of catching up to do. FIRST of all, we went to santa cruz on saturday and it was FABULOUS! we had so much fun and it was really pretty. next, we went to the wineries in lodi this weekend with jane and larry and brandie, my girlfriend from new orleans that just moved here. i had a lot of fun but i think everyone was tired at the end of the day. i've put several pics on here of santa cruz and the wineries. BUT the most exciting thing is.... EMILY'S HERE!:) we picked her up from the san jose airport yesterday afternoon and we're having the best weather during her stay here. she laid out at the pool today and got sunburnt- dang it! i haven't gotten that much sun since i've been here:) i am so jealous... friday, we're going to see alcatraz and do some other sightseeing in san francisco so we're all excited about that. and now for the negative part: i'm SO stressed right now. i'm going to be unemployed in 2 1/2 weeks and everyone at work keeps asking me where i'm going and when i say i don't know, they all ask me if i'll sign on to stanford. and there's just a lot going on right now and a lot of things to take care of. i'm feeling very bogged down with responsibility and i don't like it:( welcome to life, huh? hope everyone is having a good week. love you guys, jules (and kate and em... and M)he he he

3 WEEKS LEFT!

Okay, we officially have three weeks left here... And we're trying to fit so many things into them. It's kind of stressful! My girlfriend Brandie made it into California from New Orleans and we're going to see her on Sunday. Today I think we're going to Santa Cruz. Kate really wants to go so we're making it our priority today:) And I think we're going to one of the wineries with Jane and Larry tomorrow. SO - we're counting down the days and I have no idea what I'm doing after this. I've applied for a job in Oregon yesterday but I haven't heard anything from the agency yet, but I'm hoping that I will on Monday. I will keep you posted when I know where I'm going:) Love you guys, Jules

Snuggle Buddies!

Okay - so, kate and M are officially best buds. they're always together!!! i'm so jealous...:) but glad for M 'cause she's getting extra attention. but she's so spoiled now- she growled at kate the other night because they were sleeping and kate moved her legs and accidentally shifted M a little bit. unbelievable... so we went to the beach today!! it was 78deg and fabulous- it was M's first time at the beach:) it was a little warm for her but she had a lot of fun. we went to half moon bay again because we love it so much. the drive up there is so pretty and the beaches aren't crowded and people camp there and it's just so much fun. we're definitely taking emily there when she comes to see us. so- ha ha ha to all of you guys in the midwest driving through snow right now. we may never come back!:) hope everyone has a good week. my friend brandie is flying in to sacramento on thursday so we're going to be there to meet her when she gets off the plane- i'm so excited!

EaRtHqUaKe!!!!

Okay - so here's the scoop: last night at 2040 california time, there was a 4.2 earthquake one mile north of lafayette, which is about 2 hours northeast of san francisco. we felt one of the three reported aftershocks but at the time we thought it was the kids running upstairs (we were over at liz's eating dinner and chatting). about 10 min after we commented on how loud they were upstairs, a bulletin flashed across the screen that told us about the earthquake. it was kinda creepy... but kinda cool:). so, that's the only major event happening here. stanford asked me to stay on at my present job, but i don't think-sorry- i KNOW i'm not going to stay on in my current job because I HATE IT. it's nice to have a break because it doesn't require a lot of brainwork, but i'm SO BORED. so, no news yet on where i'm going after this. i'll keep you posted. kate and i are getting really excited about seeing everyone at easter. em will be here in about 9 days and 2 weeks after she leaves, we go home!!! we have plans for the weekend to go out with some girlfriends from work on saturday and sunday. hope everyone has a fun weekend planned! love you guys, kate and jules

A Night on the Town . . .

Well - it was a short but fun weekend. Friday night kate and i ate pizza and hung out and i went out for beers with a couple of nurses from work. saturday, well - what DID we do saturday? oh yes, we cleaned ... and then we cleaned... oh yeah- and then we cleaned:) (we had quite a bit to do:) but saturday night! we went to a country bar in fremont, ca with a couple of other nurses from stanford and WE HAD SO MUCH FUN! I don't have any pictures yet but i will be sure to post them. there were REAL cowboys and they were riding the mechanical bull and it was amazing! they were really good! and they had a really great band there and we went with our neighbor liz and had a blast:) she's so much fun! today, M got her hair cut and her nails done:) kate and i had so much fun with her today- she's so little now! but just as beautiful as ever. i'm not sure, but i think she's been prancing about the apartment:) she really does think she's a person... oh! and she played with liz's cats harry and lloyd on thursday night but- i think she had more fun than they did:) ha ha Well, we hope everyone has a good week. love you guys, kate and jules

Hear no work, speak no work, see no work

Okay - so, kate and i are both SO tired of work . . . we're very tempted to call in tomorrow morning but we're giving each other pep talks:) okay, here are the updates: a friend of mine that i met in new orleans called me last night to tell me that she's going to start traveling and in 2 weeks, she'll be in california about an hour away from me:) i'm so excited for her! her name is brandie and it was a very hard decision for her (i think she's pretty nervous so i'm so proud of her!:) so yea! brandie's coming to california- Secondly, kate and i and several other travel nurses from stanford are going out in downtown san fran saturday night and we're all really excited. liz is the nurse who lives in our complex and we've started thursday tv night where we have dinner together and watch grey's anatomy. and tonight we had a lot of fun:) so, i hope everyone's week is going well and we'll have more updates after the weekend:)

Saturday, February 17, 2007

Okay - so today was BEAUTIFUL!!! It was in the high 70s low 80s all day today . . . kate and i went for a walk and we were actually Sweating - in the middle of february! Tomorrow we're going to play paintball with jon and we're really excited. it was a tough decision, though:) we were so tempted to go to the beach but we will save that for another weekend. here are a few more pics we thought you'd enjoy. they're from our weekend at half moon bay and moss beach. isn't that a fantastic sunset? and then kate and m are hanging out together:) we'll give updates on paintballing tomorrow (and hopefully we'll have some pics!:)

Tuesday, February 13, 2007

?????

Okay - so kate and i are officially in our 6th week here and . . . we're tired of working:) but M is having a lot of fun:) the novelty of being in a new place is wearing off and reality is setting in:( but we're managing and we're together which makes it much more bearable. so - yesterday, kate was sick and stayed home from work (she's feeling much better now) so she was going to take me to the train station. well, we were late and she ended up having to take me all the way to work. while she was gone, M ate ALL of her cough drops (2 whole packages). katie, of course, was less than pleased. she put M in "time-out" for a really long time and then katie went to take a nap and shut her door so that M couldn't come in. in retaliation, M took a nap on katie's clean laundry on the couch (did i mention that M is starting to shed lately?) so katie's clean laundry was no longer clean. THEN, kate took M out to use the bathroom, it started raining and M got very wet. when kate brought her back in, she took her immediately to the patio so M could shake off. Katie left her out there for 15 min and she never ONCE shook off but as soon as she let her in . . . BINGO! M shook water all over the furniture, floor, etc. (There's a war and I don't know who's winning!!) and that's the extent of the excitement around here:)

Weekend #5

Okay - so today we went with Jon to the Winchester Mystery Mansion. All I can say is . . . it's really big. :) We had a fun time and took some pictures. I didn't take too many of the house because . . . well, pictures just wouldn't do it justice. But I posted a few here. And I have no idea what we're doing the rest of the weekend. It's really rainy here right now and I've been told to get used to it. This IS the rainy season - dang it!

Tuesday, February 6, 2007

Screaming Eagles!!!

Ok - some quick updates: on sunday i went to an antique bazaar in alameda with jane and larry and it was so much fun! there was anything and everything imaginable. but the most interesting was the assortment of people you could see wondering around. i had some fabulous kettle popcorn and then jane and larry took me to eat at a neat restaurant on the harbor where you could see the water from both sides. it made for a very relaxing sunday. so i was talking with one of the girls at work today and she said that on one of her travel assignments, her apartment was next door to a school for the deaf. she said that every saturday they would have some sort of sports tournament AND . . . their team name was the SCREAMING EAGLES! i laughed so hard i nearly fell out of my chair. so i thought i'd spread the laughter. i thought it was a very cute name. we are tentatively planning a trip to wine country for saturday (and yes, spending the night:) more to come later . . . and christina, my new camera will be a canon powershot A710-IS. it's gonna be so cool . . . :)

Sunday, February 4, 2007

Half Moon Bay

We Love Beaches . . . we had the most wonderful saturday:) we drove to half moon bay with the travel nurse who's leaving (suzanne) and we walked along the beach for two hours - it was mid 60s so we were even able to take our shoes off and roll up our jeans! - and then we walked around downtown and ate lunch outside. THEN we found this wonderful little wildlife refuge called moss beach and it had this whole area where seals were nesting! it was so cool! and there are these rocks all along the beach that you walk around on (the seals are also laying on them) and there are millions of little crabs in their shells . . . we even saw a starfish!!! (thanks to kate's eagle eyes:) so we ended up watching the sunset over this beach and it was amazing . . .we have lots of pictures but they weren't digital so we can't post them yet. BUT i have ordered my digital camera so i should get it by friday this week. :)! more pics and stories to come~

What is the Issue???

Okay - so i hear that SOME people are having trouble figuring out how to make a comment on the website, so . . . here it is: at the bottom right of each blog entry there is an underlined phrase that states the # of comments that have been posted. Click on this. On the new screen, there will be a box to the right where you can type your comments: if you don't have a google account, simply click OTHER and you will be able to type in your name and your comment without having an account. KAPISH? (i have no idea if i spelled that right)- lauren, you're the teacher, help me out here. well, so i said that work sucked and there is only one other travel nurse that works with me and guess what?? yep, she's leaving. she's not fulfilling her contract. i won't use her exact wordage but to sum it up, she said that this job was crap, she doesn't have to put up with this "stuff" and she's not going to. i gain some satisfaction from watching at least SOMEONE tell these mean girls off, but sadly it is not my turn. i'm going to stick it out and see what happens. so, a funny story about katie: she's not used to driving a manual transmission and she "squeaked" the tires one day by giving it too much gas, so now she's so afraid to squeak the tires again that she refuses to give it gas. it literally takes us a minute of chugging before we ever move from a stoplight. SO she has the nerve to tell me that today she was in a hurry and she "took off and ZOOMED around the corner" there's no way in hell she ZOOMED ANYWHERE. unbelievable - her zoom probably means that she actually took off at a normal speed but i bet she was saying "oh my gosh!" the whole time . . . probably thought she was breaking the speed limit. :) katie refuses to write on here so i must tell her stories:) nothing too exciting here, though . . . except a bunch of beautiful weather!!!!

Back to the grindstone . . .

So, the work week is in swing again . . . blah blah blah. but here is one of the pics from our outing with jane and larry - we had so much fun! more pics to come, jane is so awesome: she's sending us a whole cd of pics. fun! okay - so christina and i agree: if you're going to read the blog... YOU MUST COMMENT! we want to know who's keeping up with us:) and i have a couple of funny train stories today: first of all, i lost my monthly train pass for january last night. so, no big deal, right? its only two days until the end of jan, i'll just buy a new monthly pass. not so easy it turns out. to make a long story short, i was yelled at on the train and almost got a $250 citation AND the girl proceeded to embarass me over the intercom to the ENTIRE train. so that put my panties in a wad way too early this am. THEN i got off work a little early and let kate know what time my train would come in so she could come and pick me up. let me preface this with: there are "baby bullet" trains that run a few times a day that skip small train stations and just hit the big ones: my stop is a "big" one. apparently, though, not today. about the time that i realize we're going way to fast to be stopping at my station, katie is sitting out in the car, watching my train whiz by. she had to come and pick me up 2 stations away and got lost once or twice on the way. luckily, we found humor in the situation and all turned out well. she had M and cookies in the car for me. i'm having major transportation issues lately:). other than that, kate and i are making our list of things to do before we leave here. and i'm really enjoying her company - i didn't realize how much i missed my lil sis:) love you guys
*****HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MOM!:) WE LOVE YOU*****

Monday, January 29, 2007

Okay, so sadly, i don't have pictures yet to show you from our outing with jane and larry yesterday, but . . . WE HAD A BLAST! we were completely exhausted at the end of the day and it's taking us a full day to recover but kate and i agree: it was definitely worth it. we saw so many fun things and we really have a good idea of where we want to go. whether or not we will actually be able to get back there is another story:) but we had lots of fun. can i just say on a side note: i hate boys. i'm not even dating one and i hate boys. it doesn't matter who they are or what involvement i have with them, they always seem to disappointment me. (fathers are excluded from this generalization) are my expectations too high, do i know the "wrong ones"? or are they really all as lousy as they seem, albeit some lousier than others? i don't know, but right now, i am thoroughly disgusted. on to better and more important things: katie FINALLY had a funny story from work but she won't post it on here so i guess i'll have to:). she said she was at work the other day and there's a kid that works there that's really quiet and katie said she could tell that he was different from others that she works with and she's tried to engage him in conversation a few times, but he would never talk to her. she thought it was strange but she continued to say hi to him whenever she would see him. so, the other day, she was walking in to work and she saw him and said "hey, "tim", how are you today" and all of a sudden he just started yelling "I RUN OVER PIGEONS . . . THEY'RE MEAN BIRDS . . . I RUN OVER PIGEONS . . .!" i thought it was so funny:) so i want to hear massive applause for katie's story (she needs encouragement to post more - you KNOW more funny stuff than that happens at Target - and we want to hear about it) all in all, things in san fran are going well - there's lots more to tell but i'm too tired tonight. more to come later this week when we're rested and we have pictures from jane and larry. good night:)

Plans for the Weekend (As Demanded by Christina)

Geez, you're bossy, Christina:) yes, we will be giving you updates on our weekend. so i talked to jane today and the plan is that on sunday she and larry will pick us up at 10 am (is this detailed enough for you, christina?) jane says that jon is trying to get off of work so that he can come with us but when i talked to him this evening he said, "uh yeah, i think i might be sick on sunday . . . " (cough, cough) what a punk:) but tomorrow is supposed to be really rainy so i'm not really sure what i'm going to do. i might use the day to clean since i haven't done that at all yet and then i'm going to ikea and then to buy a digital camera. i've decided it's time. i welcome any suggestions:) (hint, hint chris:) i went out for pizza and beer with my friend liz and we had a fun time. we're talking about possibly venturing into downtown san fran tomorrow night: she has a friend who lives downtown so we thought we might hit a few bars: yea! i would be so excited. i don't know what kate's plans are: and by the way, i've told her to make an entry on here but she says she doesn't have anything to say (i find that very hard to believe: i think she's holding out on some stories from work . . SOMETHING exciting/amusing must happen at target:) OKAY, we will keep you updated and once i have the camera . . . watch out!

HI:)

Okay, so -Christina and Chris want to know how our boring work days are going and they are just that: boring work days:) but actually tuesday night, i went out to dinner with my neighbor liz (i call her liz from long island, i think it's cute) and we went to a bar and had a few drinks and it was a lot of fun. she's an avid greys watcher as well and invited katie and i to watch on thursdays so . . . i think that's where we'll be tomorrow. it was so funny this morning, though - kate left at 5am and m had slept in my room all night - when i woke up at 6am to get up, i couldn't find m until i went to kate's room: she was on her bed WITH HER HEAD ON KATIE'S PILLOW! it was hysterical. and i don't think we've told anyone that m has "claimed" katie's bedroom: every time we come home, m comes trotting out of katie's room. it's so funny . . . what a crazy dog. enough about our child, though - no changes in the work situations, but i did leave kate a note the other morning: it had tips for speaking spanish:)! things like "no habla espanol!" and hace frio! hola! como estas? muy bien, gracias, y tu? i thought it was funny, but i don't know if she used any of them. damn it!!:) okay, we're working on getting a camera together for this weekend but we have no idea yet what we're going to do, so . . . more updates to come later:)

MUIR WOODS!

Ok, so today we went to Muir Woods National Forest: it was so awesome!! There were tons of redwoods and it was absolutely gorgeous. Christina, I'm sorry - we forgot the camera! So, we have absolutely no pictures to show. AND we drove across the golden gate bridge . . . WOOHOOO!!!! It was very fun - and from afar we could see alcatraz, SWEET:) We did a lot of hiking and pooped out . . . but it was a very relaxing Sunday:)

I HATE WORKING . . . and M was bad:((

Okay - so, I never thought I'd say this, but . . . I WANT MY 12 HOUR SHIFTS BACK!!! I HATE working 5 days a week. I don't know how people do it. It's so . . . tedious and time consuming. yeeecccckkk. Tonight, katie picked me up from the train station (i know, i'm incredibly lazy but it's SO cold) and she said "well, M got a BOOP BOOP BOOP today" let me precedent this by saying that BOOP BOOP BOOP is what we do to M when she has done something bad and we tap her hard on the nose 3 times: BOOP BOOP BOOP:) there is no spanking, although sometimes she has to stay in the bathroom for a while. so, katie came home and M had decided to eat the remains of a taco bell wrapper that was on the kitchen table. kate said, "oh, M! that is very bad!!! boop boop boop" too cute:) and i will finally put some pictures on here. i developed some today and yes, i'm still using the old-school disposable cameras. we're having a good time, but . . . work sucks:)

Our First Dining Experience!

Ok, so kate and i had our first local dining experience tonight and it was really fun:) we went to a local pizzeria around the corner. the pizza was awesome, the prices reasonable and they sold beer too - what more could a person ask for?:) it's back to work for both of us tomorrow, though:( M will be sad. more good things to come . . . by the way, pete told katie that the difference between a good haircut and a bad haircut is . . . 2 weeks:) i thought that was very sweet AND very wise. her haircut really is cute, just not what she had intended.

Back Off!

Ok - I would just like to say that Kate and I have only been here for a week and a half. Somehow, people think that we should have already been to see EVERYTHING. We just traveled across the country in 4 days and started new jobs . . . BACK OFF! we are trying to recuperate. but YES, we do have big plans to get out and see as much as we possibly can:). we really want to see the golden gate obviously. i say that i'm going to run across it, kate says i'll have to do it by myself:). and we're working on the picture thing, but we don't have a digital camera so it's proving to be a little bit of a challenge. i think we're going to see a movie tonight and eat at one of the restaurants downtown here. we're excited. it's nice to be able to go out and do something low key without having to drive anywhere:) it's very relaxing . . .

Addendum to initial post:): katie wants to add (and i quote):"katie got her first haircut in 3 years today and IT SUCKS ASS!!" it's really not that bad. AND katie is holding M like a baby right now - that's right, over the shoulder, like a baby. it's hysterical:)
Alright - so Katie and I have officially been in san fran (or thereabouts) for exactly one week now. . . and it has been quite an adventure. i'm working at stanford hospital and -well, so far, so good. nothing horrible, but nothing fantastic either. and katie works at the target here in mountain view, but she says it's the "ghetto" target and hardly anyone speaks english there. i met another nurse named liz who is from long island and lives in the same apartment complex. she seems like fun so i hope we see more of her. M is loving having TWO people to live with again. i came home the other day and katie had taken her out for TWO walks AND she let M come with her to taco bell. she's so spoiled . . .:) and we had our first Trader Joe's experience today. it's so cheap!! we decided that we love it and we will definitely go back. i'm riding the train to work which makes for some really interesting stories. the bus drivers on campus at stanford are CRAZY!!! but we are having a fantastic time and chris' family has been so nice. jane called to check on us the other night and while some might say that it's annoying to have parents call, it's nice when you're out here by yourself in a new place. if there are any suggestions for things we MUST do while we're out here, we would be excited to hear them:)
